Summit WM WLAN

Summit WM20 Controller

The Summit WM20 controller with base configuration can manage up to 16 Access Points (APs). It is scalable to manage up to 32 APs with a capacity upgrade license. For higher availability, Summit WM20 controllers can be paired for 1:1 active-active redundancy. If a controller fails, the APs attached to it will automatically fail over to the backup controller without a need for additional AP licenses. Summit WM20 enables unified services and policies across wired and wireless networks, which reduce network complexity and simplify management.
Summit WM series offers common functionality across all WLAN controllers. With extended roaming domains and fast cross-subnet roaming, it is well-suited for enterprise voice applications. Extreme Networks® wireless QoS solution maintains the correct traffic priority from client to destination. Over the air, latency sensitive traffic is given priority access using either the SpectraLink Voice Protocol (SVP) or 802.11e/Wireless Multimedia (WMM) priority management. Summit WM QoS capabilities include standards-based Call Admission Control (CAC) to manage traffic on the wireless network. With Unscheduled Automatic Power Save Delivery, Summit WM helps extend the battery life of Wi-Fi handsets.
Dynamic Radio Frequency (RF) management automatically sets the optimal channel and RF power settings upon startup and maintains them during operation. Security is a key concern with any wireless installation and Summit WM series controllers offer high levels of authentication, encryption, access control, and intrusion detection capabilities. Combined with wired switches from Extreme Networks, and over 10 years of implementing large-scale enterprise networks, Summit WM is ideal for demanding wireless applications.

Altitude 350-2 Access point

Altitude 350-2 is a dual-radio access point (AP) that supports simultaneous operation of 802.11a and 802.11g/b wireless networks. Used with Summit® WM series switches for centralized management and control, Altitude 350-2 is ideal for large-scale wireless deployments where high-performance voice-grade cross-subnet roaming and availability are required.
Altitude 350-2 comes in two models. Altitude 350-2i has two internal dual band omni-directional antennas. Altitude 350-2d is equipped with two RP-SMA connectors for external antennas and comes with a set of two dual band omni-directional paddle antennas. Both models support antenna diversity for better performance, particularly in challenging multi-path environments. Altitude APs are managed centrally by Summit WM controllers while enabling user traffic to be bridged locally at the AP or tunneled to the controller.

  • AccessAdapt™ makes it simple to install Altitude 350s in the same building, in another facility, or on the other side of the country. Dynamic Radio Management assures continuous Radio Frequency (RF) coverage 24 hours a day.
  • Supports high-performance Voice over Wireless LAN with fast, Layer 3 roaming, hardware-accelerated encryption, over-the-air Quality of Service (QoS) and highly-available self-healing radio coverage
  • Provides comprehensive security with Directory-integrated link security, a rich set of authentication and access control options and wireless intrusion detection

Altitude 450/451 Access point

Altitude 450/451 are the next generation of Access Points (APs) that deliver very high speed wireless services using the emerging 802.11n wireless LAN technology. Altitude 450/451 are dual-radio APs that support simultaneous operation of 802.11a/n and 802.11b/g/n wireless networks. Altitude 450 comes with six (three for each band) integrated internal omni-directional antennas. Altitude 451 is equipped with three RP-SMA connectors for external antennas and comes with a set of three dual band paddle antennas.
The radios and antennas in Altitude 450/451 are designed to provide spatial diversity with 3x3 Multiple In Multiple Out (MIMO) capability that delivers wireless bandwidths as high as 150 Mbps with 20 MHz channel. With the channel bonding option the AP can deliver wireless bandwidth of 300 Mbps using a 40 MHz channel. Both models support antenna diversity for better performance, particularly in challenging multi-path environments.
Altitude 450/451 APs are designed to be fully compatible with standard 802.3af Power over Etherent (PoE) power requirements even with concurrent dual radio operation and 3x3 MIMO configuration. This capability enables customers to easily deploy the AP in the existing PoE switch infrastructure, without having to allocate two PoE ports per AP and double the cable runs to each AP.
Altitude APs are managed centrally by Summit WM controllers while enabling user traffic to be bridged locally at the AP or tunneled to the controller. The flexibility to locally bridge the user traffic at the AP enables deployment of high speed 802.11n service without being forced to upgrade the controller.

  • Flexibility to deploy in pure 802.11n environment (Greenfield) or in mixed mode in the presence of legacy (802.11a/b/g) and 802.11n clients.

Unified Access RF Manager

Site survey and design is a critical step in the successful implementation of Wireless LAN. Without a proper design, access points may be installed in sub-optimal locations, potentially causing Radio Frequency (RF) coverage gaps and/or interference patterns. These RF issues can lead to lack of wireless coverage, degraded performance, latency or jitter during Voice over Wireless LAN (VoWLAN) handset roaming and/or dropped calls.
Unified Access (UA) RF Manager from Extreme Networks® provides a software toolset for developing wireless design without the need for conducting a tedious and expensive manual site survey throughout your facility. Although RF Manager will guide you through the design process step by step, it doesn’t compromise functionality—it provides advanced options for network optimization and tuning to ensure you make the most of your wireless investment.
